The Definitive Guide to Frank Lloyd Wright Woodworking Plans on the Web

Frank Lloyd Wright Designs for Furniture and Lighting

Frank Lloyd Wright Woodworking Plans are difficult to find. Here you will find links to those Frank Lloyd Wright Furniture and Lighting designs I am aware of along with experiences in building some of them. Where I have experience with multiple plans for the same design, I’ve offered my opinion on the plan I would choose. If you know of any others, please let me know and I’ll add them to the page.

Clerestory Corner Lamp – from Randall L. Price Designs

I have built one lamp of this design.

Frank Lloyd Wright used the clerestory windows to great advantage in his Usonian houses. This Lamp is a vertical interpretation of one Wright’s signature design elements.

Classic Prairie Wall Lamp – from Prairie Designs of California

I purchased this plan and built one lamp. Here is a photo: Frances W. Little Sconce.

I modified the design as described in my post Two New Uses for Loose Tenon Joinery – Part 1.

Taliesin I Table Lamp
Spring Green Table Lamp
From Prairie Designs of California

Further down the page is a different plan for the same lamp: Woodworking Plans for an Oak Park Lamp. Having previous experience with plans from Prairie Designs, I went with their plan.

I  have built three of these lamps; one in oak and two in walnut.

Int the post Workin’ With What You Got – Part 3 I show and describe some jigs used to build this lamp.

Taliesin III Table Lamp
Table Model Tree Lamp
From Prairie Designs of California

Further down the page is a different plan for the same lamp: Woodworking Plans for Hillside Table Lamp.

I’ve purchased both plans and have intentions of build one some day…

The plan from Prairie Designs is less expensive and if I were to choose one, I would go with it.

This booklet is more of an extended catalog of plans; mainly of the art glass lamps of FLLW.  If you plan to do some stained glass lamps, it would be a good reference.

Here is a link to Popular Woodworking’s Sketchup model: Falling Water Lamp Sketchup Model (requires free registration to Popular Woodworking).

This is an easy to build version of the original. In the post Fallingwater Lamp I describe modifications to this plan to make it more like the original and also how I added a heat shield to the lamp.

This book is out of print. There is one copy available in the Architecture & Landscape Architecture Library at Pennsylvania State University (link).

I think it is one cool design and wouldn’t be too difficult to figure out how to build it.

On page 141 of this book are plans for a Wright bar stool. The plans could easily be modified to make a chair – a great starting point for building Frank Lloyd Wright Furniture.
